Henry George, Jr. (November 3, 1862 – November 14, 1916) was a United States Representative from New York and son of American political economist Henry George (1839–1897). ==Biography== Born in Sacramento, California, attended the common schools; at the age of sixteen entered a printing office where he was employed for one year; moved with his parents to Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1880; reporter on the Brooklyn Eagle in 1881; in 1884 accompanied his father as his secretary on a lecture tour of Great Britain, at the close of which he joined the staff of the London Truth; returned to the US and joined the staff of the North American Review; managing editor of the ''Standard'' 1887–1891; served as correspondent in Washington, D.C., for a syndicate of Western papers in 1891; correspondent in England for the same syndicate in 1892; in 1893 became managing editor of the Florida Citizen at Jacksonville; returned to New York City in 1895; on the death of his father on October 29, 1897, he was nominated to succeed his father as the candidate of the Jefferson Democracy Party for mayor of New York City, but was unsuccessful; he married Marie Morelle Hitch (b.
